Singapore leads GenAI learning boom in Southeast Asia

This followed findings that 7 in 10 SG leaders will not hire candidates lacking AI skills.

Singapore saw a 240% surge in generative AI (GenAI) enrollments in Singapore, Coursera reported, following a Microsoft survey that showed seven in 10 Singaporean leaders said they would not hire candidates lacking artificial intelligence (AI) skills.

GenAI enrollments totalled nearly 50,000 in Singapore in 2024. It also recorded one GenAI enrollment every 14 minutes.

Singapore ranks among the top 15 countries globally for GenAI course enrollments on Coursera, leading Southeast Asia.

Preliminary insights from Coursera’s Job Skills Report 2025 indicate that GenAI skills were the most sought-after by Singaporean learners, followed by Cybersecurity, Risk Management, Human Capital Development, and Data Visualization and Analytics.

Beyond AI, Singaporeans continued to pursue finance, cybersecurity, and data, indicating their interest in versatile skills.

"The Science of Well-Being" remained amongst the top 10 courses whilst Entry-level Professional Certificates that require no prior experience or college degree, also saw a rise in uptake.
