SIT partners with JTC on Punggol Digital District test bed

The Straits Times reported that the test bed will connect to PDD’s Open Digital Platform by end-2025.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced that the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is working with JTC, IMDA, and industry partners to build a district-wide test bed that will allow innovations to be trialled across the entire Punggol Digital District (PDD).

Mr. Wong said the initiative will extend beyond SIT’s campus, enabling companies to prototype and test new urban and digital solutions in real-world settings before deploying them more widely.

As part of this, SIT’s Punggol campus has been built as a “living lab” with smart infrastructure systems that collect real-time operational data to support applied research

He cited examples, including a Multi-Energy Micro-Grid integrating 10,000 square metres of solar panels and battery storage to optimise energy use, as well as planned trials of autonomous robots to provide services and patrol precincts

The Prime Minister said these projects will give students and faculty first-hand experience, taking ideas from lab to marketplace, whilst companies can validate concepts on-site before scaling up.

Mr. Wong added that SIT’s co-location with PDD—which will host major firms like OCBC, UOB, Panasonic, and government agencies such as GovTech and the Cyber Security Agency—will provide a steady pipeline of industry partnerships, research collaborations, and job opportunities for graduates
