Which industry has the most job vacancies?

Those that went into new job functions accounted for 24.4% of new positions.

Singapore’s labour market remains tight, with job vacancies outnumbering jobseekers. The proportion of newly created positions rose to 47.3% in 2023, the highest since 2018 (41.8%), reflecting evolving economic needs, according to the Ministry of Manpower. 

 

Information & Communications remained the sector with the highest proportion of vacancies for new positions, at 72.8%, underscoring its dynamism.

Construction also saw an increase, with newly created positions comprising 65.7% of vacancies, up from 64.4% in 2022, driven by post-pandemic construction activity.

The Food & Beverage Services (57.2%) and Retail Trade (55.6%) sectors also experienced higher shares of vacancies for new positions, reflecting adjustments to evolving consumer patterns through job redesign and new business models.

Most of these new positions (65.2%) stemmed from expanding existing business functions, reflecting economic growth. 

Expansion into new functions accounted for 24.4% of new positions, whilst restructuring or venturing into new business areas represented 6.2%.
