SNS and messaging apps dominate GE2025 information seeking amongst social media
Social networking sites took the top spot amongst social media with over 68% of users engaging at least weekly.
Social networking sites (SNS) and instant messaging platforms are the top social media platforms used for information seeking and sharing amongst Singaporeans, according to the Institute of Policy Studies’ Media and Internet Use During General Election 2025 report, with both showing the highest average usage scores.
SNS ranked first, with 12.9% of respondents using it several times a day, 25.9% once a day, and 29.4% a few days a week. Only 18.7% and 13.1% reported using it once a week or less and never, respectively.
Instant messaging platforms followed SNS, with 12.1% of respondents using them multiple times a day, 23.9% once a day, and 30.3% a few days a week, while 17.1% used them once a week and 16.5% never.
TikTok came next, with 12.2% of respondents using it several times a day, 23.4% once a day, 24.7% a few days a week, 17% once a week, and 22.6% never.
YouTube usage showed 10.2% using it several times a day, 23.4% once a day, and 28.3% a few days a week, while 18.6% used it once a week and 19.4% did not use it at all.
Podcasts were the second least popular platform, with 9.6% of respondents using them several times a day, 22% once a day, and 29.8% a few days a week. 18.1% used them once a week, and 20.4% did not use them.
Online discussion forums/portals were the least popular, with 8.5% using them several times a day, 20.4% once a day, and 29.8% a few days a week. 18.4% used them once a week, while 23% did not.
