Two in three satisfied with gov’t but cost of living still stings

Law and order are rated more favourably, as housing affordability lags.

Two-thirds of Singaporeans are satisfied with the government’s performance, compared with 28% who say they are dissatisfied, according to a YouGov report.

Millennials recorded the highest approval at 79%, whilst Gen X was the least satisfied at 52%, with 39% expressing dissatisfaction.

Meanwhile, about 66% of Gen Z and 64% of Baby Boomers were satisfied, the report revealed.

Women were slightly more positive than men, with 68% expressing satisfaction compared with 63% of men.

In assessments of specific policy areas, law and order received the strongest approval, with 21% rating performance as excellent and 49% as good.

International relations and diplomacy and economic management were also viewed positively, with more than half of respondents giving favourable ratings.

However, ‘cost of living’ and ‘housing affordability’ were identified as the weakest-performing areas.

Around 27% of respondents said cost of living is handled poorly, whilst 26% gave the same assessment for housing affordability.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
