Manufacturing output shrinks 6.1% in July

Output fell across most clusters.

Singapore’s manufacturing output contracted by 6.1% year-on-year in July, worse than the 4.4% year-on-year decline in June.

According to the Economic Development Board, factory output fell across all clusters except for the chemicals segment.

Electronics output continued to contract, slipping 5.8% year-on-year on back of lower production of semiconductors and computer peripherals.

The biomedical manufacturing cluster’s output declined 13.4% in July compared to a year ago. Output of the medical technology segment increased 10%, but this was offset by a contraction in the pharmaceuticals segment.

Excluding the volatile biomedical manufacturing segment, overall output fell 4.1%.
