Daily briefing: SC Capital to raise $550m fund for COVID-hit Japanese hotels; MoM reviews advisory on vaccination to speed up drive

SC Capital Partners is looking at raising some $550m fund for Japanese hotels, hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, Reuters reported.

“I believe very strongly that the trend of foreign visitors coming to Japan will recover and gather strength and continue for a very long time,” Chairman Suchad Chiaranussati told Reuters.

It is amongst the companies eyeing Japanese hotels, along with Blackstone Group.

The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) is reviewing the advisory on COVID-19 vaccination for workplaces as it aims to speed up the government’s vaccination drive.

“The tripartite partners are reviewing the advisory, with a view to further drive up vaccination rates so that our workplaces remain safe," a MoM spokesperson said. 

"We are finalising the updated advisory which will be issued soon."

A new association has been formed to help Singapore in improving its recycling capabilities for plastic waste, which Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu considered as “timely.”

Singapore has generated around 868,000 tonnes of plastic waste in 2020, of which, only 4% were recycled.

The Plastic Recycling Association Singapore is expected to be in communication with various stakeholders to exchange best practices in waste management and recycling.
