HSBC opens Quantum Centre of Excellence in Singapore
It will focus on post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution.
HSBC has launched a Quantum Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore, its second global hub after the UK, to drive quantum innovation and strengthen cybersecurity in financial services.
The Singapore CoE will focus on the practical applications of quantum technologies across banking and finance.
Early areas of research include post-quantum cryptography (PQC), quantum key distribution (QKD), and long-term infrastructure resilience, as well as exploring the potential of quantum computing in financial modeling, optimisation, and machine learning.
The centre will also act as a collaboration platform for regulators, researchers, and fintech partners to accelerate the development of quantum-safe solutions.
HSBC is already active in this space, participating in the industry-wide QKD sandbox for secure financial communications alongside the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), DBS, OCBC, UOB, SPTel, and SpeQtral.
