MPA, MSC accelerate green fuels and port digitalisation in new deal
The MOU targets bio-LNG adoption, vessel efficiency, and smarter port flows.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation, innovation, and manpower development.
Under the MOU, signed on 25 May by MPA chief executive Ang Wee Keong and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company CEO Soren Toft, both parties will explore new shipping routes and services.
This is aimed at strengthening connectivity, alongside initiatives to support the adoption of alternative marine fuels, including bio-LNG.
They will also explore technologies to improve vessel energy efficiency and operational performance, alongside maritime digitalisation initiatives to streamline vessel arrivals and port operations.
On this end, the MPA is using a real-time digital twin of the Port of Singapore to test new operating concepts and infrastructure planning before real-world deployment.
It combines live operational, vessel and environmental data to support use cases such as charging infrastructure planning for electric harbour craft and port safety simulations.
On manpower development, MSC will support internship and scholarship opportunities through the Singapore Maritime Foundation’s Maritime Outreach Network (MaritimeONE), an industry-led platform comprising industry, government, and institutes of higher learning to promote maritime careers.
