Singapore clean energy workforce to grow 80% by 2032

Workers in the clean energy sector will reach around 2,700.

Singapore’s workforce in the clean energy sector is expected to increase by 80% by 2032 to reach around 2,700 employees, with the power sector also seen to rise by 800 in the same period, a survey by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) showed.

In a statement, the EMA said the Energy Sector Manpower Survey 2022 said that roles in electricity transmission and distribution solutions, low-carbon alternatives, solar energy, and smart grids will see a significant increase.

The country’s clean energy workforce employed around 1,500 individuals in 2022.

The survey also showed that 83% of the country’s clean energy workforce is composed of Singapore residents, with engineers comprising the majority of the technical workforce.

“The projected workforce growth thus augurs well for the job opportunities that will be available to Singapore residents,” EMA said.

EMA added that workforce growth is also expected to include data analytics and operational technology cybersecurity.

“Workers in these areas will need skills in data management, data engineering, and security solutions implementation, highlighting the importance of equipping the workforce for the evolving clean energy industry and a digitalised future,” it said.
