HDB triggers massive 1,600-unit BTO surge in Lakeview and Shunfu
This would be the first public housing development in the areas in over 40 years.
The Housing & Development Board (HDB) will introduce approximately 1,600 new Build-To-Order (BTO) units across three projects in the Lakeview and Shunfu areas starting June 2026.
This initiative marks the first public housing development in these locations in over four decades, aiming to provide housing options near established towns—such as Toa Payoh, Bishan, and Ang Mo Kio—to facilitate mutual care amongst families.
The initial development, located between Upper Thomson Road and Lakeview Estate, will launch in the June 2026 BTO sales exercise, with construction set to begin in the second quarter of 2026, the HDB said.
It will comprise approximately 1,200 units across five residential blocks, including 470 two-room Flexi flats, 740 four-room flats, and 50 public rental flats across two blocks.
Two additional projects, one in Lakeview and one in Shunfu, will launch within two years of the June 2026 exercise, providing 130 three-room flats and 290 four-room flats.
The developments will include commercial and communal facilities for new and existing residents, such as an eating house, minimart, clinic, bakery, hair salon, and childcare centre, the board said.
For recreation, 3-Generation playgrounds, adult and elderly fitness stations, and roof gardens atop multi-storey car parks will be incorporated, whilst a Residents’ Network centre will also be provided.
The Upper Thomson Road park connector will be realigned to provide access to MacRitchie Reservoir, and new covered linkways will connect the Lakeview project to bus stops along Upper Thomson Road.
Blocks in the first Lakeview project will feature staggered heights—from 18 to 40 storeys—to integrate with surrounding low-rise developments, and residential blocks will be oriented to offer views of MacRitchie Reservoir.
