Six in 10 shoppers abandon purchases over slow checkout
56% would walk away if their preferred payment method isn’t offered.
More than half of Singapore consumers will abandon their purchase if checkout takes too long or if their preferred payment option is unavailable, according to the latest Adyen Retail Report 2025.
The study revealed that 60% of Singapore shoppers would abandon a purchase if the checkout process is too slow, whilst 56% would walk away if their preferred payment method isn’t offered.
The pressure for speed is even stronger among older shoppers. The report highlighted 65% of Baby Boomers in Singapore — the highest across all generations — would abandon their purchase due to a slow checkout experience, despite expectations that younger consumers would be more sensitive to digital speed.
In addition, consumers increasingly demand simplified transactions, with 26% of Singaporeans wanting to complete their purchase in as few clicks as possible.
Singapore retailers are taking note. The report stated that 97% of businesses in Singapore actively track checkout speeds, whilst 45% now use transaction speed as a key business KPI. Many are also investing in technology to streamline the process: 29% of Singapore businesses already offer one-click checkout options.
