Port operations unaffacted by chemical tanker collision near Jurong Island

Oil spillage clean-up efforts underway.

Around evening yesterday, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) received a report that a Hong Kong-flagged chemical tanker, “Lime Galaxy” had collided with the arriving China-flagged containership, “Feihe” at about 2.7 km, south of Jurong Island.

Prior to the incident, MPA’s Port Operations Control Centre attempted to alert the two vessels of their converging courses.

Good progress has been made in containing and cleaning up the oil spillage resulting from the collision, according to MPA's latest update.

There has been no further spillage of bunker fuel from Feihe, it added.

As a precautionary measure, oil booms and an oil spill response craft have been deployed around the vessel. In total, 10 craft from MPA and oil spill response companies have been deployed as part of the containment and clean up efforts.

Vessel traffic in the Strait of Singapore and port waters remain unaffected. Port operations are also not affected, assured the maritime and port agency.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
