MPA supports first marine biofuel training in Singapore

The trial was done by BHP, Oldendorff Carriers, and GoodFuels.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has supported the conducting of the first marine biofuel trial involving an ocean-going vessel bunkered in Singapore by global resources company BHP, German shipping company Oldendorff Carriers, and advanced biofuels pioneer GoodFuels on 4 April.

According to the joint release, the 2020-built dry bulk carrier Kira Oldendorff was refuelled with “drop-in” advanced biofuel blended with conventional fossil fuels as part of the trial. The carrier weighs 81,290 deadweight tonne.

The biofuel bunkering trial aims to understand the behaviour of the fuel, assess engine and vessel operational performance, and explore the technical and commercial merits and challenges of biofuels as a marine fuel.

“Singapore is committed to the environmental sustainability of the shipping industry. We welcome interested parties to cooperate on the research, development and piloting of clean marine fuels in reducing the impact of shipping on the environment,” MPA senior director (operations and marine services) Daknashamoorthy Ganasen said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
