Automated mass transit vehicles the next frontier for SMRT

It can carry up to 24 passengers.

SMRT has teamed up with automated car manufacturer 2getthere to market, supply and operate automated vehicle systems in the Asia-Pacific region.

The two groups have joint venture company named 2getthere Asua to market, install, operate and maintain the Automated Vehicle systems for customers in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific.

The vehicles can operate autonomously in demanding weather conditions, using artificial landmarks for navigation. It can carry up to 24 passengers each, and can operate as a low-cost automated transit system that can cater for up to 8,000 passengers per hour in any single direction.

The JV company will also pursue both automated and mixed-use transit projects in Singapore and the region.
