Gov’t acquires land from Malaysia for Woodlands Checkpoint extension

The expansion will take place in phases over the next 10 to 15 years.

The Singapore government will acquire two separate small land parcels spanning approximately 0.79 ha owned by the Malaysian government to facilitate the redevelopment and extension of Woodlands Checkpoint (WCP).

The Immigration & Checdkpoints Authority (ICA) plans to extend WCP in phases over the next 10 to 15 years to provide a long-term solution to the chronic congestion at this land crossing.

The average daily number of travellers passing through WCP is projected to reach 400,000 by 2050. In 2024, the daily traveller volume at WCP increased by 22% to 327,000. During the year-end school holidays, 376,000 travellers used the WCP.

Phase 1 of the construction, which will commence in Q3 2025, will build an extension of WCP at the Old Woodlands Town Centre. This extension will comprise new automated clearance facilities for cargo vehicles, cars, and motorcycles.

The Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) will also be extended to create a direct route for vehicles exiting WCP to access the BKE.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
