Gov't installs over 15,300 EV charging points across S'pore
About 7,100 of these are public, with the rest in private areas like condominiums.
The government has installed over 15,300 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across Singapore, with plans to expand to 60,000 by 2030, according to the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) report.
About 7,100 of these charging points are publicly accessible, whilst the remainder are in private spaces such as condominiums. Drivers can locate these chargers using the MyTransport.SG app or specific EV charging operators’ apps.
Most public chargers are slower alternating current types designed for overnight charging. In response, the LTA plans to roll out fast-charging options. These fast chargers can recharge an EV battery from 20% to 80% in about an hour, reducing charging time compared to standard chargers.
In residential areas, EV infrastructure is also expanding, with one in two HDB car parks now equipped with EV chargers. The LTA aims to ensure that every HDB Town is EV-ready by 2025, with chargers in nearly 2,000 car parks.
Over a third of new car registrations in early 2024 were electric, reflecting growing EV adoption. Currently, electric vehicles make up 3.3% of Singapore’s total population, with more than 21,800 registered EVs.
