SG boosts EV adoption with incentives and infrastructure expansion

It includes reducing upfront costs for EV purchases by up to $40,000.

The government is ramping up efforts to drive electric vehicle (EV) adoption with robust financial incentives and infrastructure expansions, said Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat.

Chee said motorists can now benefit from the Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Incentive and Enhanced Vehicular Emissions Scheme, effectively reducing upfront costs for EV purchases by up to $40,000 this year.

“We enacted the Electric Vehicles Charging Act in December 2023 to ensure the safety, reliability and accessibility of our charging network,” the minister added.

Moreover, the EV Common Charger Grant has co-funded over 1,100 EV chargers at non-landed private residences like condominiums, with funding still available for an additional 900 chargers.

“As a result of these measures, EV adoption has increased significantly – for 2024 thus far, about one out of three new cars sold in Singapore is an EV, as compared to about 18% in 2023,” Chee noted.

Singapore boasts over 7,100 EV charging points, with more than a third of HDB carparks equipped with charging facilities.

The government urges NLPRs to capitalise on remaining ECCG funding to further expand EV charging infrastructure, reinforcing Singapore's commitment to sustainable transport solutions.
