Huawei-SP Mobility’s BESS-enabled EV charger to power high-mileage drivers
The first ultra-fast site opens at Temasek Polytechnic.
Huawei and SP Mobility launched Singapore’s first ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charger integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS) at Temasek Polytechnic on 9 February 2026, according to a press release.
The charger has a maximum power rating of 480kW and is configured to operate at 400kW at the site in line with on-site power availability, with actual charging speed dependent on each vehicle’s compatibility.
The battery energy storage system stores electricity when the charger is not in use and discharges it during charging, reducing demand on the power grid.
For compatible vehicles, the system can add up to 200km of driving range in around five minutes, supporting the charging needs of commercial fleets.
“As our fastest public chargers to date, they offer more efficient charging for drivers, especially those with higher daily mileage,” said Dean Cher, managing director of SP Mobility
The Temasek Polytechnic installation is the first non-residential location in Singapore’s eastern region to offer ultra-fast EV charging and builds on a 2025 collaboration between SP Mobility, Huawei and EV-Electric.
