SATS splits gateway services business into two

Ground handling services now have APAC and Singapore divisions.

SATS has recently announced the restructuring of its gateway services business, forming two new separate entities dedicated to Singapore and Asia Pacific.

The airport service company said its Singapore hub will be dedicated to driving aviation hub competitiveness in its home city, while Gateway Services Asia-Pacific will be in charge of growing the firm’s presence in the region.

The APAC unit will manage operations in overseas airports, including SATS’ network of overseas stations in the region via its subsidiaries, joint ventures, and associates.

Bob Chi, currently CEO of Gateway Services was assigned to head the APAC unit while the group’s chief operating officer, Henry Low, will lead Singapore Hub effective 1 Oct.

Splitting the segment will reinforce its foothold in its home city while bolstering its growth overseas, according to the firm. Gateway services business involves ground handling services, from passenger handling, baggage services, aircraft handling, security to cargo handling services.

In an earlier statement, SATS pledged to continue upgrading its network of airport lounges in Singapore following the opening of its newly refurbished SATS Premier Lounge at Changi Airport Terminal 3.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
