Singapore strengthens defense ties with Italy in supply chain pact
The agreement covers defence supply chains and disruption readiness.
Singapore and Italy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on supply chain resiliency, according to Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) at the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue on 30 May.
The MoU was signed by MINDEF Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) Melvyn Ong and Italy’s National Armaments Director Vice Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani.
The exchange was witnessed by Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto and Singapore Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing.
MINDEF said the arrangement is intended to strengthen defence supply chains in both countries and support resilience against potential disruptions.
Minister Crosetto met Chan Chun Sing, with both sides reaffirming defence ties and discussing geopolitical and security developments, MINDEF said.
The ministry added that Singapore and Italy’s defence cooperation includes high-level visits, military exchanges and training across the services, as well as collaboration in defence technology.
Chan also said that multilateral frameworks alone are insufficient and called for overlapping, issue-based partnerships to address emerging risks in areas such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity in a speech on 31 May during the dialogue.
