New aquaculture plan to boost high-quality fish egg supply and hatchery upgrades
It also aims to equip workers with modern aquaculture skills.
The Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment and the Singapore Food Agency co-developed the Singapore Aquaculture Plan to build a resilient and sustainable aquaculture sector.
Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, said the plan has five pillars: space and infrastructure planning; enabling regulations; research, innovation, and enterprise; ecosystem development and; demand offtake and promotion of local produce.
For one, it aims to increase the supply of high-quality, genetically superior fish eggs and fingerlings and upgrade local hatchery facilities.
Another key aspect of the new plan is the focus on investing in R&D to tackle disease management, improve feed efficiency, and drive aquaculture innovation through academic collaboration.
It also aims to equip workers with skills in modern aquaculture practices and attract talent to the sector through educational initiatives and career development opportunities.
