3 in 4 Singaporeans believe they'll go cashless by 2030

More than half think going cashless will be more convenient.

Singapore's Smart Nation initiatives have begun to enter the public consciousness as 76% believe in a cashless Singapore by 2030.

According to a survey by Blackbox Research, 72% are already aware of the cashless method by PayNow. The technology was introduced by seven banks in July and will serve as a fund transfer option that requires a NRIC or mobile number.

Three out of five see that the new payment method will bring greater convenience.

Currently, one in three Singaporeans use mobile phone banking apps at least twice a week. In total, 64% of Singapore use mobile banking apps.

Retailers are also embracing Fairprice's launch of the first unmanned cashless convenience store in the country.

In the future, public transport is also projected to make the shift to cashless payments. Bus and train rides will be paid using travel cards, whilst top-ups will be performed without physical cash.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
