Singapore Airlines places new orders for 8 more Boeing aircraft

SIA has entered into an agreement with Boeing to buy eight more B777-300ERs worth USD2.4 billion.

In a press release, SIA said that the additional aircraft to its feet will be for use on medium and long-haul routes.

The order was announced in August when a letter of intent was inked. A firm purchase agreement has now been signed, enabling deliveries of the aircraft to begin in the 2013/14 financial year.

Powered by General Electric GE90 engines, the aircraft will be configured in a three-class layout and will join 19 B777-300ERs already in service. “This order is part of our ongoing fleet expansion and modernisation programme, which enables us to offer our latest cabin products to our customers,” said SIA CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong.

“The additional B777-300ERs will also help us further strengthen the Singapore Airlines network, providing our customers even more travel options.”

Singapore Airlines’ fleet currently comprises 105 widebody aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, with another 68 aircraft on firm purchase or lease orders with the two manufacturers.
