Tata Communications secures prestigious Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year - Technology award
An initiative aimed to bridge gender disparities in STEM education in Singapore.
Tata Communications, a global Commtech major, has clinched the Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year - Technology award at the Singapore Business Review (SBR) Management Excellence Awards.
The company's impactful initiative, in collaboration with Formula One ® and United Women Singapore (UWS), stands head and shoulders above the other nominations for its impact and commitment to inspiring the next generation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
The collaboration aimed to bridge gender disparities in STEM education, particularly in Singapore, and involved a unique experience for female students to explore the technology powering Formula One®, a predominantly male-dominated sport.
Tata Communications, the Official Broadcast Connectivity Provider of Formula 1®, provided an exclusive opportunity for students to engage with the technical aspects of the sport, interact with female role models in sports, technology, journalism and business, and understand the diverse career opportunities in the intersection of sport and technology.
As part of the initiative, Tata Communications partnered with UWS to mentor and inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM fields. This mentorship not only addresses the gender gap but also creates an extended family for these girls, offering professional advice and guidance when needed.
In addition to the mentorship and the on-ground activation at the Singapore Grand Prix, Tata Communications launched a podcast series titled "Empowering Tomorrow," featuring two special episodes on 'Technology and Sport: Allies for Diversity and Inclusion.' The podcast, hosted by Oriel Morrison, Chief Strategy Officer at APAC Network, featured notable personalities, including Rosanna Tennant, Broadcast Journalist at F1TV, and Georgette Tan Adamopoulos, President of UWS, and Tri Pham, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at Tata Communications.
Exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences at the F1® Event Technical Centre further enhanced the students' understanding of the technology that powers Formula One, providing an immersive learning opportunity.
The ‘AMP IT UP’ programme launched during the Singapore Grand Prix, brought together voices from technology, motorsports, and gender advocacy in a panel discussion, addressing challenges faced by women and emphasising the importance of mentorship and male allyship.
Tata Communications continues to champion inclusivity and equal opportunities, leveraging its position as the Official Broadcast Connectivity Provider of Formula 1 to inspire young minds, break barriers, and encourage more girls to explore STEM fields.
The initiative has left a lasting impact, contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable future. The panel discussion, "AMP IT UP" | Bridging STEM, Sport, and Opportunity, and the podcast, Empowering Tomorrow, promoted knowledge sharing and fostered discussions on cultivating a conducive environment that empowers women and promotes diversity and inclusion in traditionally male-dominated fields.
