Setel Ventures wins Technology Excellence Award for trailblazing app

Malaysia’s first e-payment solution that creates seamless on-the-go refuel and retail experience while addressing motorists pain points.

Setel Ventures Sdn Bhd has received the Technology Excellence Award for its innovative Setel app at the recently concluded Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards, presented by Singapore Business Review.

Now in its second year, the awards programme honours enterprises that take risks and lead the charge in developing ground breaking projects, digital services, reimagined strategies, and technological initiatives. Winners were judged on the basis of uniqueness and innovation, effectiveness and impact, and dynamism.

Setel is Malaysia's first mobile application that integrates the e-payment platform with the pump, Kedai Mesra and loyalty benefits to create seamless retail-on-the-go experience for PETRONAS customers. Setel will definitely ease the typical pain points faced by customers when refuelling at petrol stations such as having to walk to the cashier to make payment and missing paper receipts. With Setel, customers can pay for fuel from their car, earn and redeem Mesra points, and track their fuel purchases with e-receipts, all through the app.

Since its launch, Setel continuously listened to customer feedback and expanded its features to address customer needs and make its mark on the retail-on-the-go space. The recently introduced Deliver2Me allows users to purchase selected items from participating Kedai Mesra outlets and have it delivered directly to their vehicle. Customers can also pay with Setel in Kedai Mesra, minimising the contact of high-touch surface points during the exchange of cash or use of physical cards. These features offer customers a more convenient and safe retail experience.

Setel’s Malaysia Technology Excellence Award 2020 comes as a recognition of the app recording over 1.6 million users since its nationwide expansion in February. Setel is now available at 1,000 PETRONAS stations nationwide and is free on iOS and Android via the Apple Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery. A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
