Ailing manufacturing sector gets life-saving boost from volatile biomedical segment in October

Overall output would have declined 4.3% without this segment.

The volatile biomedical manufacturing segment saved Singapore’s manufacturing sector in October. Singapore’s manufacturing output remained quite flat with a 0.2% year-on-year growth in October; excluding the biomedical manufacturing, however, output declined 4.3%.

According to data released today by the Economic Development Board, biomedical manufacturing cluster’s output expanded 22.5% year-on-year in October, following a 10.3% year-on-year decline in September.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output grew 2.6% in October 2014. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output fell 3.4%.
