Affluent visitors fuelled tourism and spending surge during F1 night race: report
Much of the spending by wealthy travellers went toward retail and dining.
Affluent travellers made up about 30% of all visitors but accounted for around 40% of total spending during the 2025 F1 Singapore Grand Prix period, according to Visa’s report.
Their arrivals were up by roughly 30% compared to an average week, whilst their spending climbed by nearly 45%.
Travellers from Mainland China, Australia, the US, and Indonesia together made up more than 40% of total spending during the race week.
Much of the spending by wealthy visitors went towards retail and dining, with apparel and restaurants each making up about 15% of their outlay.
However, spending also rose sharply in other areas, particularly discount stores (up about 450%) and electronics (up about 100%).
Corporate travel also saw a jump, coinciding with various conferences and exhibitions. The number of business cardholders visiting Singapore rose by about 80%, whilst their spending increased by roughly 170% compared to a typical week.
Late-night spending between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. surged by more than 90%, driven by demand for dining and entertainment after hours. Restaurants, fast-food outlets, and entertainment venues saw the biggest increases in spending.
Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across Singapore benefited from the influx of visitors, with traveller spending at SMBs rising by around 65%.
The biggest increases were seen in restaurants (up about 80%), electronics stores (up about 80%), and groceries (up about 120%), as racegoers explored areas beyond the city centre.
