Singapore slips one spot in Global Destination Cities Index as visitor growth slows

It has been pushed to seventh place.

Singapore has slipped one spot in Mastercard's Global Destination Cities Index. The city-state is ranked as the 7th most visited city in the world this year, down from 6th place in 2014.

The latest GDCI projections show that Singapore should expect to receive 11.88 million international visitors, a marginal increase of 3.0% compared to 2014, while visitor spend in Singapore for 2015 is projected at US$14.7 billion in Singapore.

Singapore appeals most to visitors in the region, with Singapore’s top five feeder cities all originating from Asia: Jakarta, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Manila and Shanghai.

In terms of outbound travel, Singapore-based travelers make up Kuala Lumpur’s biggest group of visitors, and Bangkok’s second biggest.

This was partly due to Istanbul moving up from seventh to fifth place, pushing both New York and Singapore down by one rank.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
