Singaporeans unveil 3 considerations when selecting digital travel platforms

Six in 10 will compare prices on different platforms before booking accommodation.

Given the rising cost of living, many Singaporeans have become extremely price-conscious when it comes to travelling.

According to a survey by Booking.com, Singaporean travellers will most likely book their accommodation or activity on a digital travel platform that offers the lowest prices (69%).

Apart from cost, Singaporeans also consider the flexibility of cancellation and refund policies (56%) and good user experience (32%) when choosing a digital travel platform to use for their next trip.

The report also found that more than half of Singaporeans (60%) like to compare prices on different platforms before booking accommodation online.

Most travellers prefer an accommodation budget of $100-$250 per night (56%), whilst some would only spend less than $100 (32%). Very few would spend $250-$500 (10%) and $500-$1000 (2%) a night.

More than half (57%) will read online reviews first, whilst some (46%) will read information about what they can do near the accommodation before deciding.

Amongst activities that Singaporeans prefer to do when travelling include dining (79%) and shopping (60%).

To further save money whilst travelling, Singaporeans will choose to stay at budget-friendly accommodation (57%), travel during off-peak times (52%), or select less expensive travel destinations (44%).

Amongst travel destinations, East Asia, particularly Japan and South Korea, is the most preferred by Singaporeans, followed by Europe (15%), Ocean, particularly Australia and New Zealand (15%), and South East Asia (14%).

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
