Eight in ten rate cyber safety ‘good’ yet password reuse persists
A report from bolttech shows 84% of SG users rate safety as good despite poor cyber hygiene.
Singapore internet users show a gap between perceived and actual cyber practices, according to the Asia‑Pacific Cyber Safety Landscape 2026 report by bolttech on the Asia-Pacific Cyber Safety Landscape.
In Singapore, only 46% of internet users consistently adopt strong cyber hygiene, whilst 84% rate their online safety as “good” or “very good.”
The survey also found that 70% reuse passwords across multiple accounts, 61% share personal information online without verification, and 58% use the same device for personal and work activities.
Across 11 Asia‑Pacific markets, 85% of respondents rated their online safety highly, but only 44% consistently follow strong cyber practices.
89% reported encountering scams or cyber threats whilst 64% expected someone in their household to fall victim to cybercrime in the next 12 months.
The report highlighted concerns about AI-driven cybercrime with 92% of APAC respondents saying AI-powered scams will be harder to detect, citing phishing, deepfake fraud, and AI-powered malware as key threats.
Regarding cyber incident preparedness, 24% said they feel confident responding to a cyber incident, whilst 58% said they know the steps they should take in theory.
The study also found willingness to pay for protection solutions.
71% of APAC respondents indicated they would pay for cyber protection services, including monitoring, alerts, family-focused protection, and coverage for financial losses.
In Singapore specifically, 68% expressed willingness to pay for added protection.
