Ransomware attacks on Singapore organisations spike after major events
96% of organisations say their plans can detect vulnerabilities in identity systems.
79% of ransomware attacks on Singapore organisations occurred after a material corporate event, making these transitions a major point of exposure, according to a report from cyber firm Semperis.
Among those cases, 63% followed mergers or acquisitions, and 57% happened after layoffs or redundancies.
The report also showed that 59% of Singapore organisations faced ransomware incidents during holidays or weekends, a higher rate than the United States (56%), the United Kingdom (50%), and Australia and New Zealand (52%).
Security operations coverage commonly drops during these periods. 67% of respondents cited work-life balance, 49% said their business was closed, and 30% said they did not expect to be targeted.
Identity threat detection and response practices in Singapore remain uneven. 96% of organisations say their plans can detect vulnerabilities in identity systems, but only 39% include procedures for remediation.
In global comparison, 52% of organisations were targeted on holidays or weekends, and 78% reduced security operations staffing by at least half during those periods. Meanwhile, 6% cut it entirely.
