Singapore’s greenest radio cell deployed in 5G network: Singtel

The Ericsson AIR 3268 will save up to almost 20% more energy.

Singtel fielded the Lion City’s greenest radio cell, Ericsson AIR 3268, to the country’s 5G network, after forging a partnership with Swedish telecommunications firm, Ericsson.

The cell is seen to conserve up to 18% more energy and weighs over 40% less than older generations of 5G radios.

“At just 12 kilograms, its proportions simplify upgrades and make new site acquisitions and installations easy on towers, rooftops, poles and walls – even in challenging locations,” said Singtel.

Ericsson projects more than 580m 5G subscriptions by end-2021

It makes a 5G site 76% lighter than a 4G site that needs multiple radios whilst providing the same network capacity.

The deployment of eco-friendly radio cells is part of the government’s push for sustainability and decarbonisation measures. More of these cells will be put up all over the country to boost nationwide 5G coverage.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
