Daily Markets Briefing: STI up 0.02%

Investors will likely be cautious today.

The Straits Times Index (STI) ended 0.5 points or 0.02% higher to 3228.56, taking the year-to-date performance to +12.07%, according to SGX. 

The top active stocks were BRC Asia, which gained 4.88%, DBS, which gained 0.10%, CapitaLand Mall Trust, which gained 1.93%, Singtel, which gained 0.27% and OCBC Bank, with a 0.46% fall. The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index gained 0.27%, while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index rose 0.16%. For longer term observations please go to sgx.com/research.

According to OCBC, the muted showings on Wall Street Friday are likely to keep investors cautious today.

"We keep the initial hurdle at 3320, ahead of 3350. On the downside, we keep the immediate support at 3200, followed by the next support level at 3165. Overall volume tumbled 17.1% with 1.7b units traded, but total value added 1.3% to S$1.1b, and average value/unit rose 22.2% to S$0.67," it said.
