Huawei International wins in two categories at SBR Technology Excellence Awards

Huawei’s AirEngine Wi-Fi 6 and CloudEngine 16800 meet the high demand for fast connectivity, VR experience, and data centre capabilities.

As the world of business constantly seeks new technological solutions in response to market needs, technology companies fulfil a vital role in the Asia-Pacific regional economy and beyond. For this reason, Singapore Business Review (SBR) recognises the innovative work of firms that have launched new technological products, services, and strategies over the past two years. Uniqueness and innovation, effectiveness and impact, and dynamism are the main criteria for success in the SBR Technology Excellence Awards for 2019.

This year, Huawei International was rewarded for its trailblazing work in network and broadband in two categories: IT Services and Data Centre.

Huawei’s first award-winning product is AirEngine Wi-Fi 6, which amplifies by four times the system capacity and concurrent access of the previous generation, and decreases transmission latency by 60%. With its built-in omnidirectional antennas, the AP7060DN functions as a responsive wireless access point (AP) that can support high-bandwidth services such as high-definition video streaming, virtual reality/artificial reality all-interactive teaching, desktop cloud, and multimedia. The device rate is as much as 6 Gbit/s.

Furthermore, AP7060DN meets the IoT requirements of enterprises by allowing IoT expansion. AirEngine Wi-Fi 6 boosts capacity and reduces delays, thereby dramatically improving business operations. Through integration with Huawei’s 5G technologies, AirEngine Wi-Fi 6 ensures not only top speed but also intelligent coverage and acceleration as well as lossless roaming.

The capability of the Huawei AirEngine Wi-Fi 6 network was proven in its first commercial use in 2018 for the “Super i-Shanghai” project, where more than 240 concurrent users were able to connect to a wireless network. This number was a significant increase from the 60 users who previously had difficulty connecting simultaneously without network disruption. Such improved connectivity is now available to a larger number of users around the world.

Meanwhile, Huawei’s second award-winning product, CloudEngine 16800, represents the industry’s first data centre switch for the AI era. With its embedded AI chip, CloudEngine 16800 provides real-time learning and training of network-wide traffic and implementing auto-sensing and auto-optimization of the traffic model. This device also has high density 100G/400 GE line cards and the capability to evolve to the autonomous driving network. The CloudEngine 16800 provides global optimisation of the entire network, which is similar to a “traffic brain” of a city that adjusts all traffic lights in response to vehicle and pedestrian behaviour, thus optimising traffic conditions.

CloudEngine 16800’s uniqueness is manifested in its three main features:

  • It is super fast, enabling ultra-high-speed signal transmission primarily through a high-performance AI chip that uses the iLossless algorithm to overcome computing power limitations caused by packet loss on the traditional Ethernet. CloudEngine 16800 can provide zero packet loss, low latency, and 100% throughput, improving the AI computing power from 50% to 100% as well as the data storage input/output operations per second by 30%.
  • It has SuperPower, with a powerful heat dissipation medium that consists of a new carbon nanotube thermal pad and VC phase-change radiator, which reduces the power consumption of each bit of data by 50%.
  • It is SuperCooling because of mixed-flow fans and a magnetic permeability motor that improves heat dissipation efficiency whilst boosting power supply efficiency by 95% per unit space.

Through its highly innovative AP and data centre products, Huawei enables its customers to benefit from speedy, reliable connectivity and manage the transition from the cloud era to the AI era. These achievements reinforce Huawei’s position as a technology industry leader.

The inaugural awards ceremony was held on 30 May 2019 at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.

This year’s nominations were judged by a panel consisting of Cheang Wai Keat, Head of Advisory of Ernst & Young LLP; Darwin Thio, Director, Cybersecurity & Technology Services of Nexia TS; KPMG Head of Cybersecurity Daryl Pereira; Evelyn Lim, Executive Director, Tax Advisory of BDO LLP, and; Jonathan Kok, Co-Head of Technology, Media & Communications Industry Group of RHTLaw Taylor Wessing LLP.
