SingTel, StarHub: We've had enough

Tired of the deadlock that has gripped the FIFA agreements, SingTel and StarHub have joined forces in a joint offer for the massive event.

The offer will provide FIFA with an increase in value from four years ago to the rights to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However both companies say the they will strive to keep costs affordable to as many viewers as possible.

Both companies issued this joint statement yesterday: “In an attempt to reach a value that is acceptable to FIFA to bring World Cup to Singapore, the price offered to FIFA would sacrifice all World Cup margins for both SingTel and StarHub while keeping the price affordable for consumers. However, we have yet to reach an agreement with FIFA.

Due to FIFA's confidentiality provisions, we are unable to disclose any other details. We will continue to negotiate with FIFA in an attempt to reach an agreement. “

Broadcasters in nearby regions such as Malaysia and the Philippines are already licensees, leaving Singapore still hanging conspicuously without a license.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
