PIL vessel secures cyber security certification

Kota Elok is the first of 13 new 13,000 TEU vessels joining the fleet.

Pacific International Lines’ (PIL) first 13,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container vessel has received Lloyd’s Register certification.

The vessel, Kota Elok, made its maiden call to Singapore on 15 July, where PSA Singapore presented a commemorative plaque to its caprain, Kan Liang.

The certification covers compliance with the International Association of Classification Societies’ UR E26 and UR E27 cyber security requirements, which are mandatory cyber resilience requirements for newbuild vessels contracted from 1 July 2024.

UR E26 covers cyber resilience for the vessel as a whole, whilst UR E27 covers cyber security protections for individual onboard systems and equipment.

The certification followed collaboration between PIL, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Lloyd’s Register, specialist testing organisations, and equipment suppliers to implement and integrate cyber resilience measures into the vessel’s design and construction.

The vessel is the first of 13 new 13,000 TEU vessels joining PIL’s fleet. The vessels can operate on LNG and low-sulphur fuel oil.

It also features energy-saving technologies and digital systems to reduce fuel consumption and improve operational performance. A bow windshield improves aerodynamics and fuel efficiency on long-haul voyages.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
