SG pushes for closer collaboration with Vietnam in two areas

One of which is digital economy.

Singapore plans to accelerate its cooperation with Vietnam in areas of digital economy and sustainable development.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan revealed this ahead of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Lion City.

Balakrishnan said digital economy is a property for both countries, especially since it encompasses new areas such as cybersecurity, cross-border data flows, smart cities, innovation, artificial intelligence, and digital payments.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the crucial role of digital trade and e-commerce in ensuring supply chain resilience and business continuity. During the series of high-level exchanges last year, leaders on both sides also agreed on the importance of accelerating cooperation in digital transformation," the foreign affairs minister said.

On sustainable development, Balakrishnan said Singapore is keen to work with Vietnam in "renewable energy, carbon credits, and sustainable infrastructure with the ambitious goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050."
