Want to be hands-on with your ideal home setting?

Commune is opening an Experience Centre for meticulous homeowners.

After opening its second store in Paragon in December last year, Commune, a furniture design and lifestyle company, is set to launch an Experience Centre at Defu Lane by mid-2015.

The Experience Centre will be a one-stop centre allowing homeowners to not only view Commune’s wide selection of furniture, but to create their own mood boards for their ideal home settings, participate in workshops on furniture maintenance and get interior firm recommendations.

Commune is a home-grown brand with a strong regional presence. It has two local retail stores and a showroom, with 19 overseas stores in countries including China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Aside from local expansion, co-founder Julian Koh reveals that there are two stores set to open in Shanghai and Johor Bahru.

The founding story

Commune was born from a long family line of furniture manufacturers. It is founded by siblings Joshua and Julian Koh, with cousin Gan Shee Wen. The trio’s common interest in accessible artisan furniture has been ingrained in them at a very young age. With their teamwork and diverse individual expertise in business and design, they have made Commune successful.

According to Julian, when they started Commune, they wanted it to be more than just a furniture provider. Hence, the design concept of their lifestyle stores aims to create an immersive and cozy space where people are able to experience Commune in a direct manner.

“We want people to enter our stores and experience our furniture, which is why we encourage customers to make themselves comfortable and feel free to test our products. Commune’s stores are also designed to replicate the interior settings of homes to make the shopping experience an easier for homeowners,” says Julian.

The company believes that a home should be a sanctuary that offers a bespoke environment for each individual. It advocates for a green environment and uses eco-conscious wood and timber imported from sustainable sources in USA, Europe and Southeast Asia.

While Commune is still at its early stages as a furniture design and lifestyle brand, Julian believes that the second outlet in Paragon will allow people to come to know about it and its offerings. “Taking into consideration the size of houses in Singapore, we have designed pieces of furniture that fit most homes. Apart from that, Commune offers quality designs at a price point that is accessible to sophisticated yet price-conscious design enthusiasts,” he adds.
