Amazon strengthens Singapore foothold with office launch

The new office is located in Asia Square.

Amazon revealed via a press release that the company will be launching an office based in Singapore.

The office will occupy around 100,000 square feet and accommodate up to 700 employees from their Consumer business and Corporate functions.

Plans to expand the departments of consumer business and corporate functions are also in motion, with over 110 job openings in the country.  More than 200 news jobs are expected to be added in Singapore by the end of 2022.  Support for more local businesses is also one of the functions of the office.

A total of three floors will make up the offices, with more than 30 teams. Employees that make up the offices will include those supporting Amazon.sg and Amazon Fresh, Amazon Advertising, Prime Video, seller enablement and other corporate functions.

Ang Chin Tah, Senior Vice President, Digital Industry Singapore, was adamant that the company's office move represented a milestone in the company's growth journey in Singapore.

Also present at the launch of the office was Minister of Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, who highlighted that the move reinforced the country's position as a regional technology hub, as well as Amazon's impact on the local businesses.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
