Mastercard and Primer Group’s first NGP tech rollout eases transactions for APAC users
The PrimerStar app enables secure QR-based retail transactions.
Primer Group and Mastercard launched PrimerStar—a loyalty and payment application enabled by Mastercard’s Next Generation Point-of-Interaction (NGP), the first deployment in the Asia-Pacific region—across Primer’s flagship stores at Funan, Singapore.
The application combines payment and loyalty functions, allowing shoppers to scan a QR code to access membership data and complete transactions, according to a press release.
The technology uses digital tokens and biometric passkeys to secure data, preventing the exposure of card credentials to merchants or third parties.
The service is available at Primer Group stores, including Hydro Flask, Toms, Herschel, and Allbirds. There are also plans to expand the application to the Philippines and Malaysia, with rollout partners including EVONET, Fiuu, and Savant Degrees.
“This collaboration with Primer Group demonstrates how next-generation acceptance capabilities can be deployed in a live retail environment,” said Safdar Khan, Division President, Southeast Asia, Mastercard.
Primer Group is a retail distributor headquartered in the Philippines, managing 150 brands and 450 stores across China, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
