The port also set a new high of 3.09 billion GT of vessel arrival tonnage.

The Port of Singapore container throughput in 2023 rose by 4.6%, reaching a new high of 39.01 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

Apart from a record high throughput, the port also handled 591.70 million tonnes of cargo last year, whilst annual vessel arrival crossed three billion gross tonnage (GT) for the first time, translating to a 9.4% jump from 2022.

In 2023, the total tonnage of ships under the Singapore flag reached 99.56 million GT (+4% YoY), making the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) the largest ship registry globally.

Meanwhile, total bunker sales volume reached 51.82 million tonnes in 2023, and of which 520,000 tonnes were biofuel blends, and 110,000 were liquefied natural gas (LNG).

In July 2023, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) also successfully conducted the world’s first ship-to-containership methanol bunkering operation, where about 300 tonnes of green methanol was supplied for the first time in the Port of Singapore.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
