A French expat develops a social network app for sports enthusiasts

It lists over 195 sports.

Playground is an innovative social network created for fans to regroup and share their common passion for sports. This app-based platform unites individuals and brands by fostering a sense of belonging, mutual engagement and discovery – whether in their neighbourhood or globally.

On Playground, users can create Tribes, which are user-generated groups based on common sporting interests. The platform lists over 195 sports so users can tailor a personal Playground experience for themselves based on the sports or recreational games they love, and begin connecting by sharing content and updates with other Tribe members.

According to founder and managing director Fabrice Burtin, Playground is unique because it brings fans, enthusiasts, and the world of sports together in a single, intuitive digital platform and opens users to a world of discovery right at their fingertips.

Fabrice, 42, shared that Playground is the result of months of intensive research to ensure it answers the needs of sports lovers that are currently not met by existing ‘cluttered’ social networks or online forums.

Fabrice said that was conceptualized for personal use after he and his team found out that none of the existing social networks were answering the needs they had as users. While the sport industry is using social networks extensively, he claims that no one has ever come up with a proactive and simple solution to streamline communications.

Moreover, it was developed as the team recognized the ability of sports to unite and bring people together while teaching them positive values such as respect and teamwork. “Playground was created with this in mind. It is a way to facilitate bonding and establish unique connections, no matter where in the world they are, breaking cultural frontiers and crossing geographical boundaries,” said Fabrice.

Born in France, Fabrice has spent nearly 20 years in Southeast Asia, honing his expertise in marketing and community engagement. He brings with him years of experience and expert knowledge of marketing and digital engagement in the creation of Playground.

Despite being a relatively new app, Fabrice boasts that Playground has already seen an uptake by early adopters such as sports fan clubs, journalists looking to increase visibility for their work, sporting events and venues, and national sport associations.

Most recently, Playground was appointed Social Media Partner for the 13th Singapore Open Gymnastics Championships (SG Open), which welcomed a 691-strong international contingent of athletes.

The iOS version is live on the Apple App Store: https://www.joinplayground.com. The Android version of Playground is now available for free download on Google Play.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
