M1, EZ-Link tie-up to allow fare payments with mobile devices using new SIM card

Subscribers can nab their new SIMs starting tomorrow.

M1 customers can look forward to hassle-free commutes, as they will soon be able to use their mobile devices to pay for their transit fares.

According to M1’s news release, M1 and EZ-Link’s team-up to allow M1 customers to change their SIM cards to a near field communication (NFC) transit SIM at any M1 outlet. With the new SIM card, commuters can use their mobile devices to pay for their MRT, LRT, and bus rides.

“The NFC transit SIM is a next generation, full-service NFC SIM which can be used for public transport, as well as at more than 30,000 EZ-Link acceptance points islandwide including shopping, retail, food & beverage and taxis payments,” said M1.

The NFC transit SIM card is also equipped with M1 Prepaid MasterCard, which lets users top up M1’s prepaid mobile M Card or make purchases at merchants that accept MasterCard Paypass.

The SIM card will cost $37.45, including GST. As a launch promotion, M1 announced it is waiving the $9.10 activation (including GST) fee for customers signing up from tomorrow until 30 April 2016, while stocks for the SIM last.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
