Road closures ahead as F1 SIA Grand Prix hits the road

The racing event will run for six days.

Singaporeans are strongly advised to use the public transport and plan upcoming journeys ahead of time as the return of the 2016 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Grand Prix in the city-state prompts road closures for six days.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) issued the advice in anticipation of the auto racing event that will hit the road 16-18 September 2016.

“Affected roads will be closed from 12.01am, 14 September (Wednesday) to facilitate the set-up of race infrastructure, and will reopen progressively when the race is completed with all roads fully accessible by 5.30am, 20 September (Tuesday),” LTA explained.

The public transport office assured motorists and commuters that race organisers have worked to minimise traffic disruptions and improve accessibility to allow members of the public to carry on their normal daily activities in the Marina Centre area as they enjoy the racing tournament.

Roads will also reopen early after the race while taxis are allowed entry to the Marina Centre area at all times except during races. On top of free shuttle buses between Lavender MRT station and Gate 1 of the venue, race goers may ride the MRT and selected feeder buses as operations will be extended to cater to the expected high volume of commuters.

For those persistent to bring cars, they can access the Marina Centre area through a single-lane road from Nicoll Highway and Temasek Boulevard at specific hours or via Temasek Boulevard from Rochor Road (after exiting ECP) throughout the day.

Car parks at Suntec City, Millenia Singapore and Marina Square remain open to public subject to availability, LTA added.

To ease morning and evening peaks, the following MRT services and road corridors will be available for commuters and motorists during the road closure period:

a) On Friday (16 September), MRT services will be available at City Hall MRT station till 1.30am
