CAAS injects $1b to boost Changi Airport’s operations
The fund will improve the airport’s connectivity, infrastructure, innovation and technology, and manpower.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) will invest $1b over the next five years, in addition to the $5b top-up to the Changi Airport Development Fund announced during Budget 2025.
Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat said the funding will strengthen Changi Airport’s connectivity, infrastructure, innovation and technology, and manpower.
By the mid-2030s, CAAS aims to expand Singapore’s current network of over 160 city links to more than 200 by working with economic agencies and industry partners.
It will also collaborate with aviation stakeholders to secure funding support for developing common-use infrastructure to enhance cost-competitive airport operations.
For innovation and technology, CAAS will develop a 10-year technology roadmap to guide strategic planning and translate research and development into operational capabilities across the aviation ecosystem.
In addition, CAAS will work with aviation companies and unions to grow a skilled workforce, investing in upskilling initiatives to attract and retain local talent.
The ministry will also expand Changi Terminal 5’s capacity by an additional 50 million passengers per annum, up from its current capacity of 90 million.
