Singapore limits passengers to two power banks per flight

The new CAAS rule will take effect starting 15 April.

Passengers departing Singapore will be allowed a maximum of two power banks per person on flights starting 15 April, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) with passengers carrying more than two required to dispose of the excess before boarding.

Power banks must not be charged on board, and passengers are advised not to use them to charge devices during flights.

The restrictions follow an addendum issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on 2 April to update safety rules for transporting lithium batteries, which can overheat or short-circuit.

CAAS said it is working with airlines to implement the rules smoothly.

Airlines will inform passengers, airport touchpoints will display reminders, and screening officers will be trained.

Existing rules continue to apply, including the prohibition of power banks in check-in baggage, capacity limits, and the need for individual protection to prevent short-circuits.

Passengers should also check with airlines, which may have stricter specific policies.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
