China Railway S’pore branch bags $199m civil works deal for DTL2e tunnels
Construction will start in Q3 2026, with DTL2e service slated for 2035.
China Railway Tunnel Group Co. Ltd. (Singapore Branch) has been awarded the final civil contract by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTL2e), covering the design and construction of tunnels between Bukit Panjang station and the upcoming DE1 station.
The contract, valued at around $199m, involves twin bored tunnels about 1.8 kilometres long running beneath Woodlands Road and parts of the Kranji Expressway (KJE) flyover in a restricted work area near the existing station.
Construction is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2026, with service on the DTL2e expected to begin in 2035.
To minimise disruption, works will largely be carried out outside operating hours, with ground stability monitored in real time and regular updates provided to residents and stakeholders.
China Railway Tunnel Group (Singapore Branch) specialises in tunnelling and infrastructure projects and is currently completing Prince Edward Station for Circle Line 6.
