Affluent cardholders lead spending, travel activity after F1 race: Visa

Affluent card users have 65% more shopping spend whilst 35% of travellers visited other places post-race weekend.

Travellers spent an average of 3.5 more days travelling after the 2025 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix as 20% made post-race plans, Visa data showed.

Post-race travel was popular for long-haul travellers from outside of Asia, the card provider said, adding that 35% of them visited at least one other country after the race week, higher than the average.

Their preferred destinations were neighbouring countries near Singapore, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, whilst Australia and Japan were also popular.

Meanwhile, affluent travellers also spent about 20% more per person than other travellers on their post-race journeys, driving a surge in travel spending, Visa said.

Compared to other travellers, they spent about 65% more in department stores and around 50% more on apparel and on their post-race itineraries, it added.

About 25% of affluent cardholders make further travel plans after the 2025 Singapore Formula 1 weekend, it added.

Their preferred post-race destinations were Europe and North America.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
