Great Eastern wins at Singapore Business Review Technology Excellence Awards 2026 for insurance coverage planning feature

My Protection Explorer allows customers to evaluate their financial readiness and insurance coverage through data-driven analysis.

Great Eastern won Digital - Life Insurance in the Singapore Business Review Technology Excellence Awards 2026. The company launched My Protection Explorer in September 2025 as a feature within its mobile application to address customer uncertainty regarding insurance coverage adequacy.

Why was My Protection Explorer developed by Great Eastern?

This initiative follows research and focus groups, which revealed that only 26% of Singaporeans seek professional advice for financial planning.

Whilst 78% of people expect increased personalisation as technology advances, many still struggle to understand their protection gaps. Great Eastern developed this self-guided solution to empower individuals to evaluate their portfolios and support retirement readiness.

How does the My Protection Explorer feature address life insurance coverage gaps?

My Protection Explorer uses a customer-centric interface to simplify complex insurance protection topics. Unlike conventional life insurance coverage calculators that rely on generic formulas, this tool leverages real-time data.

It incorporates users’ actual income, liabilities, and lifestyle expenses against their current insurance protection coverage. This allows My Protection Explorer to deliver personalised insights into a customer’s protection gap.

The feature covers key areas such as hospitalisation, disability, and life protection. My Protection Explorer also integrates educational content to ensure users remain informed of industry trends before they engage with a financial representative.

How are policyholders using My Protection Explorer to evaluate their insurance coverage?

Since the launch of the tool, over 4,000 policyholders have used the My Protection Explorer feature to assess their insurance protection and coverage needs. Most users explored hospitalisation and life protection categories, whilst interest in critical illness coverage grew amongst the digital audience.

During pilot testing, more than 60% of users reported a shift in their understanding of insurance coverage needs because the tool highlighted previously overlooked financial considerations.

Adoption, life stage relevance, and the future

My Protection Explorer is applicable to different life stages, whether you are starting a family or planning for retirement. This makes insurance management more accessible as users receive clarity on their protection levels at their own discretion.

In April 2026, the company is introducing enhanced sharing capabilities so users can transmit their analysis directly to their financial representatives for a holistic financial review. This development aims to drive broader adoption and deepen engagement amidst the digital evolution of the insurance sector.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
